12th annual Bart Granger Memorial Golf Tournament to be played September 18th-19th 2009

The annual Bart Granger Memorial Tournament has a reputation - one it deserves. The two-day event is the largest high school golf tournament in the country, and arguably one of the most prestigious. Fort Worth Paschal High School hosts the tournament each year. The event is named after a former PHS golfer who was killed in a car accident in 1997. The tournament has ballooned into a field of more than 50 teams and over 250 players from across all classes and several states. Perhaps one of the most amazing things about the tournament is that the team winner of the event has gone onto win a state title for eleven consecutive years. Austin Westlake continued that trend last year winning both the Bart Granger and the boys class 5A state title by eleven over runner-up San Antonio Reagan.

The list of former players and teams reads like a who's who in golf. From former state champions, US Junior champions, Pub Links Champions, and winners of college and professional events, this list is endless. The 2009 Bart Granger will take place on both the Pecan Valley River and Hills courses with all players playing 54 holes over two days. It's a demanding test of endurance for many high school golfers that aren't used to the kind of schedule usually seen only at the collegiate level. For anyone interested in watching the best of high school golf in the state the players play 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday with players teeing off shortly after 7am both days.
