Cinco Ranch Boys & Girls Golfers Both Win First at River Ridge

The Cougar Boy & Girl Varsity Golf Teams both were champions at the Katy Taylor HS River Ridge Challenge held on October 30-31, 2009. The boys shot 297-302 to win by 11 strokes over Houston Memorial and their national star Cory Whitsett. The girls shot 337-334 to win by 38 strokes over Seven Lakes HS.

The boys were led by Senior Micah Hill who shot 70-73 for the individual third place medal. Cory Whitsett of Memorial won first with a 71-69. Micah is currently looking at playing college golf at Sam Houston State University. Sophomore Dylan Reynolds shot 76-72 and Senior Kyle Westmoreland shot 74-76 for 5th and 6th place in the tournament. Other scores for the Cougars included Junior Scott Newell (78-81), Junior Jake Leatherwood (83-77), and Senior Craig Johnson (79-85). It was the first tournament of the year for the boys and a great way to start the season as champions of their first event.
The other Katy ISD teams were Katy Taylor at 623 for third, Katy at 623 for fourth, Mayde Creek at 624 for fifth, and Seven Lakes at 627 for sixth.

The girls were led by Sophomore Abby Newton who won first place with a score of 73-75. Senior Alyssa Pantle came in fourth place with scores of 84-85, and Senior Caroline Wood came in seventh place with scores of 89-85. Other Cougar girl scores were Senior Kristen Lauritano (91-89) and Sophomore Megan Webster (93-104). Seven Lakes came in second with a 709, Katy Taylor came in third with a 757, and Memorial came in fourth with a 790. The Cougars 671 was very impressive on a hard golf course. The Cougars first tournament of the year was at April Sound and the Cougars were short handed due to the ACT test.
The girl’s next tournament is at ConCan Country Club on The Frio River. It is hosted by the San Antonio Northside ISD and has teams from all over Texas.
