Nov 19 2009 Cinco Ranch Cougar Girl Golfers Win 2nd Place at ConCan on the Frio
The Cinco Ranch H.S. Cougar girl golfers traveled an hour and a half west of San Antonio to compete in the San Antonio Northside ISD Invitational at ConCan Country Club on the Frio River. The girls captured the 2nd place team trophy against teams from around the whole state. They shot a 349-334 on a very challenging course. Round Rock McNeil won first with a 339-327, and Victoria Memorial won third by shooting 349-351 which was 17 strokes behind the Cougars. Temple came in fourth at 366-378.
Cougar Sophomore Abby Newton won third place individually with rounds of 81-78. She also won a closest to the pin contest on one of the four par-3 holes by hitting it to two feet and making birdie. She ended up winning three medals which is a school record for a single tournament. Also winning one of the closest to the pins was Senior Kristen Lauritano. Kristen nearly aced the hole and also won one of the four contest medals. Kristen also shot 87-81 to finish in 6th place individually. Senior Caroline Wood shot both days in the 80’s with scores of 89-87 as she finished in 11th place. Senior Alyssa Pantle shot 92-88 to finish in 13th place and Sophomore Megan Webster shot 107-97.
The girls got to stay in cabins right on the Frio River Thursday and Friday night. It was a great team bonding experience. They even worked as a team as they washed the dishes after the two meals that Coach Nordstrom and Coach Stone cooked for them. They even said that their coaches’ cooking was good! The coaches’ cooking could not compare though to the great chicken-fried steaks for dinner and the country breakfast buffet that was served by the host resort.
The golf program, parents and kids want to especially thank our CRHS Athletic Booster Club for their financial support of this fantastic out of town tournament. The experience will be remembered forever by this special team.
